Step back in time to 1927, when the Smith family built this charming log cabin, now known as the Smith Log Cabin at Europe Lake Lodge. With its hand-hewn logs and wide-plank pine floors, this quintessential Door County retreat blends rustic charm with modern comforts. Nestled in the serene woods of Door County, this enchanting cabin invites you to leave behind the hustle and bustle of city life and reconnect with nature.
The space
As you arrive, the cabin's Scandinavian hand-painted shutters and vaulted ceiling welcome you to a simpler era. The cabin comfortably sleeps up to five guests, with two upstairs bedrooms furnished with a double bed and two twin beds, plus an additional rollaway bed if needed. The cozy living area features an electric fireplace, perfect for curling up with a good book or a glass of wine. Modern amenities include TV, Wi-Fi, a fully stocked kitchen with a dishwasher, and a washer/dryer, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay.
Step outside, and you'll find yourself just 20 feet from serene Europe Lake. The private dock, located 200 feet from the cabin, offers opportunities for fishing, swimming, or simply relaxing and enjoying the breathtaking scenery. Feel free to use our kayaks, canoes, and rowboat to explore the lake, or embark on nearby hiking and biking trails to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the area.
Guest access
The entire property is yours to enjoy. Along with your cabin, you have access to the grounds, including a fire pit, two docks, lounge chairs, and various water activities. We provide life jackets and water toys to enhance your lake experience. After a day of adventure, gather around the fire pit under a canopy of stars, or enjoy some stargazing from the cabin's large porch.
Other things to note
We are delighted to reopen the Smith Log Cabin in June 2024, with refreshed interiors featuring brand-new beds, a comfortable living and dining area, a children’s play suite, and air conditioning. Please note, this almost 100-year-old cabin has some quirks—tight staircases and low ceilings due to the shorter stature of people in 1927. The galley kitchen now features two tall mini fridge/freezer combos for your convenience.
Nestled in the woods of Door County, the Smith Log Cabin offers easy access to the charming villages of Ellison Bay, Sister Bay, and Gills Rock, and a short ferry ride to Washington Island. “Don’t walk to this cabin, RUN! You will not find a more charming little cabin, away from the hustle and bustle yet close to everything!! The decor is adorable, the beds are super comfy, the front porch is great for a rainy day, and the kitchen is stocked with spices and all the extras!
